Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590)

A temporary type of visa called the student guardian visa subclass 590 enables you to travel to Australia to look after and support a kid studying there who is under the age of 18. You may stay in Australia with this visa until either the date noted in your visa approval letter or the day the child becomes 18 years old. You are permitted to look after more than one child with this visa.
You can only be eligible for a 590 visa to Australia if you are the parent of a student under the age of 18 who is studying there, the custodian, or a qualifying relative who is at least 21 years old. As long as this visa category remains valid, you may make as many trips to and from Australia as you choose. You can extend your visa under this visa subclass by requesting a new student guardian visa. You can apply for any study course or training that lasts no longer than three months with the visa subclass 590, including English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), which is fewer than 20 hours per week.
Eligibility Criteria
The guardian of a student may temporarily enter Australia with the subclass 590 visa to care for and support the child while he is pursuing his education there. Only if the requirements for eligibility under Visa Subclass 590 are met are applicants granted a 590 visa for Australia.
The eligibility for obtaining a gurdian student visa are:
- You may be inside or outside of Australia to apply for this visa, but only those who already possess a substantive visa—some substantive visas are exceptions—can be eligible for a visa.
- You must be the parent of a student with a valid student visa, the person in charge of the student, or a relative of the student who is at least 21 years old and has been formally nominated by the student parent.
- You are giving the student visa holder who is under the age of 18 care and support, or those who are older if they have exceptional circumstances.
- You should be able to provide the student with the right support, housing options, and general well-being.
- You must be able to demonstrate that you have the financial means to support both your stay in Australia and the stay of any family members you are bringing with you.
- You will need to make suitable and sufficient arrangements for your children and any other family members who aren’t travelling with you to Australia, and you’ll need to show proof of those arrangements.
