The child can live permanently in Australia with their sponsoring relative thanks to this visa. It enables a child in such circumstances to reside permanently on the island continent with their sponsoring relative. The person who typically applies on behalf of the child is the sponsoring relative.
Eligibility
The child must have:
- Be under 18 years of age, single and with no parent to care for them.
- Have a relative who is a settled Australian citizen, Eligible New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident.
- Be in Australia but not in immigration clearance when the application is made and when we decide.
- The child must be sponsored by an eligible sibling or step-sibling, grandparent or step-grandparent, aunt, uncle, step-aunt or step-uncle.
- We must approve the sponsorship. We might not approve sponsorship if the parent or their partner has been charged or convicted of offences involving children. Learn more about measures for the protection of children.
